Barchester

A 00 Gauge Model Railway

May 2006.

Another month under way and the new control panel is installed but not yet wired up to the new track extension as I haven't installed that yet. The lines, switches and contact studs are all on the diagram though.

Control panel finished and wired up, new track and turnouts installed and all working perfectly, great. Now I have to contour the facia panel and get that screwed on to the front of the layout by this new section. When that's done I must get on designing the refuelling point. It's going to be a tight fit I think.

Here's the first picture of the start of the refuelling point. You can see the rough outline of the platforms, the first of the lattice work girders bridging the track to carry the fuel pipe lines and the two main fuel tanks. I suppose in reality the fuel tanks would be underground but that wouldn't make a very interesting model.

You can also see the made up lattice work for the second set of girders.

I have been having second thoughts about having a refuelling facility at Barchester. Even at this early stage I can see that the structure, as envisaged, is going to look really out of place in the position I have it in. I don't have a lot of choice with regard  to positioning as this is the last of the vacant real estate on Barchester. I'll have to spend a little time thinking about this.

Answer was simple in the end, I have just swapped it's position with that of the Diesel washing shed. Having second thoughts about the size of the fuel tanks as they are beginning to look a bit on the big side.

Here's a picture of the wash unit in it's new position where the fuel unit is shown above. It looks better here on the model than it does in the photograph and I am quite pleased with it there.

The washer unit is only resting there at the moment, as you can see it needs ballast and a bit of ground work.

Here's the part built fuel point in it's new position where the wash unit was. The second lattice girder cross track pipe carrier is in position, or at least to withing a few mm's or so. Final position depends on pipework and storage tanks.
