Barchester

A 00 Gauge Model Railway

Your Inspiration.

The photographs here have been chosen not only for the technical merit of the layouts they portray but more for the atmosphere that comes across. This is what model railways are all about, not just rails and trains or buildings and scenery, diesels or steam, but that magical combination that tells you straight away that what you are looking at is right. I have the permission of all those concerned to reproduce these photographs on Barchester and I am deeply grateful to them. Scenes from Barchester itself will not be shown as I well know my own limitations.

Some Of The Best.

Winter on Hudson Road : One of the very few model railways that have been modelled to depict the winter scene, and modelled very well too, as I'm sure you will agree. Jon Grant has had this layout published in the Railway Modeller and all photographs are by Steve Flint, courtesy of The Railway Modeller.

Arne Wharf : Modelled by Chris Nevard in 009 (represents 2'3" gauge) and totally contained in 3' by 2'. A more tranquil scene is represented here. Industrial, yes, but dusty rather than dirty and the wharf scenes are quite delightful. The Arne Wharf web site is well worth visiting as Chris has detailed a great deal of information on his construction methods.

Combwich Branchline : Another fine layout by Chris Nevard, this time in 4mm Finescale. A typical Somerset & Dorset branch line in the final days of steam. Nostalgia in every corner of the layout. For those who are too young to remember this type of scene in reality then feast your eyes on this. Again Chris has done us all a favour by recording many of the constructional details on his Combwich web site so you know where to go to find out more.

Cooncreek & Tumbleweed Springs (C.A.T.S) : Perhaps you aren't familiar with the logging type layout, possibly not even interested. Well, interested or not you should look at these pictures and enjoy them for what they are, a highly skilled railway modellers ideas and imagination brought to reality in model form. There is inspiration for all of us here and if you visit his web site here you will not only be rewarded by even more pictures but also much artistic and technical help. His forum, All Model Railroading covers all aspects of model railroading with excellent sections on photographing your models.
